Hat Mad

In Uncategorized on March 30, 2011 at 8:40 pm

Since I was a little girl wondering the flea markets with my pocket money, I had an infatuation with hats, and over the years I accumulated quite an impressive looking hat stand.  The only problem is, my head seems to be slightly on the small side, which has always been quite annoying.  Well, all that is about to change – for the first time in my life I have discovered a store that offers hats in different sizes.  They have a whole range of fabulous fitting hats in different styles, fabrics, feathers and patterns.  Welcome to the Goorin Brothers hat shop.

Vancouver Style Spotter

In Uncategorized on March 29, 2011 at 1:08 am

A lot of people have asked me why I moved from London to Vancouver, especially with the field I am in and some seem to think Vancouverites don’t have much fashion style at all – well, I’m on a mission to change that perception.  I have spotted numerous stylish and trendy people strutting the streets of Vancouver and will be snapping their pics to share with you – maybe it will be you next ;o)

Check out who I spotted in Yaletown’s Starbucks this week:

Meet musician, Karson Wolfe from Vancouver, Canada
OK, so I love the hair the most but his funky outfit, which also grabbed my attention is from: shirt – little miss vintage, pants (cheap mondays) – Mintage, Boots – Army Surplus, Blazer – H&M

What are your favourite places to shop – “Any of the numerous vintage or thrift stores on commercial or main. though a favourite is Burcu’s Angels on East 16th Avenue

What is one accessory you never leave home without? “Lip ring”

How would you describe your style? “A little bit rock a little bit casual”

What do you think is the most notable trend to reappear? “Right now it is the 90s, and in a few years the 2000s will be back ad infinitum”*

Any fashion icons or famous people whose style you admire? “Marc Bolan, Ian Hunter and David Bowie”

* ad infinitumlatin phrase meaning “to infinity”

Textures & Colours

In Uncategorized on March 28, 2011 at 5:15 pm

Saturday’s shoot was a feast for the eyes – besides from the stunning model, there were so many different textures and colours that my little eyes were darting all over the place.  Textures and colours have always had a huge impact on me, one that I can’t really describe but here are some pics I would like to share with you.

Dress For Success

In Uncategorized on March 28, 2011 at 2:40 am

Last Wednesday I assisted Christie Lohr in styling the models who were dressed in clothing donated by a wonderful company called Dress For Success.  They assist and re-introduce women who can’t afford to buy clothing for interviews and those that have been out of the working environment for so long due to unfortunate circumstances.  Not only do Dress For Success assist women in dressing, but they also coach them on various office and life skills, giving the women the much needed confidence to get back into the working world.

If you would like to find out more about donating money or clothes to Dress For Success or even volunteering your time to help these women, visit http://www.dressforsuccess.org/supportdfs_donate.aspx - I will definitely be volunteering my services to this amazing cause.

Another point that was made during this show was that second hand clothing can and does, if put together correctly, look amazing at a fraction of the price.  If you follow the basic guidelines Christie described on the show you’ll have a basic but very versatile work wardrobe.

Watch the link to pick up those pointers:

A few behind the scenes pic’s

All the lovely models looking fab!

Last few minutes to countdown and Elim Chu (Assistant Stylist) sneaking in a cheeky pose

3, 2, 1…

Christie going over the lovely Beth Lugtu’s outfit

… and again with stunning Nisha Khare

Cheesy, but gotta be done ;o)

And to top off an amazing morning, we bumped into Twilight actor, Charlie Bewley who had just been interviewed.  He is running the BMO Vancouver Marathon plus another 21 km and raising money as a tribute to his late friend and colleague, stuntwoman Jocelyn Clarke, who passed away recently.  To read more about his cause and donate visit http://www.charliebewley.com/runforyourlife/

London Trendies

In Uncategorized on March 24, 2011 at 5:15 am

Mr Robert King-Sarfo has been a happy little snapper, spotting dapper young gents all over London!  Let’s see who he snapped over the last week…

***

Meet Davey Rukin, who’s dressed from top to toe in Topman.  Davey likes London’s vast variety of styles and shops, and being able to find bargains in most charity shops.

What a top man eh ;o)

***

Next up we have Ross McLaughlan, who is a London based hairdresser/stylist.  His outfit is from: shirt – Chris Kerr Tailors, jacket – Christian Dior, jeans – Topshop, shoes – Cole Haan (vintage).

On favourite shops:  “I’m not a huge fan of high street shopping, so I take any opportunity to visit a tailor when I can.  My favourite shop at the minute would have to be ‘The Kooples’, My favourite designers/tailors are Lanvin, Ozwald Boateng, Dries Van Noten.”

On London style:  “I like that it’s so easy for people to express themselves via their wardrobe, its such an influencial city, why pigeon hole yourself to one particular style?”

On current trends:  “My favourite current trend is the sharp, tailor fitted look with a vintage edge, maybe some button on braces or some vintage shoes with a perfectly fitted suit just gives it a nice edge.”

***

Introducing Rob Gardner, who’s wonderful outfit is all vintage: blazer & jumpsuit – bought at a wholesalers, shoes & brooch – charity shops, sunglasses – Cutler and Gross (who’s website will transport you to the seaside, make sure you come back and don’t get swept away).

At the moment Rob feels the high street stores are a bit of a let down.  He finds that the best clothes come when you really look hard for them and use your imagination.  What he really loves about London fashion is that there is a big trend for ethnic prints and jewelery and his favourite trend at the moment is the 1930s cabaret inspired, fortune teller look.

And last but certainly not least, the colourful Mr. King-Sarfo.  This time round his outfit consists of: hat from ASOS, scarf from ASOS, jacket from Topman, crew neck shirt from Uniqlo, pants from Gant, shoes from H by Hudson
