Moggy about Mango

I am loving Mango’s new a/w range – scrumptious colours that pop out against neutrals and clean chic silhouette’s.

Oooh la la

In Uncategorized on August 19, 2010 at 8:48 pm

I absolutely love the fourth issue of LOVE magazine which stars Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Sienna Miller, Kelly Brook, Gisele Bundchen, Buela (a Louis Vuitton doll lent by Fabrizio Viti), Allessandra Ambrosio, Agyness Deyn and Lauren Hutton. There are eight covers to choose from. Which one is your favorite?

A/W Trends Continued…

In Uncategorized on August 15, 2010 at 7:06 pm

I’m back!

Back to the Pure Exhibition that I attended a couple of weeks ago and the presentation on what trends to expect over autumn and winter.

*

Denim on Denim

The next hot trend to look out for or perhaps re-visit but this time with an 80’s element to it – think MC Hammer, or a prairie reinterpretation – think one-pieces and dungarees.

Khabi Mirza and Asos womenswear buyer, Jo Hunt giving advice on the DD trend.

*

A classic look will include boyfriend jeans,  a denim shirt paired with a WW2 inspired aviator jacket with a sheepskin collar.  Make sure to have as much difference in weight and colour between the shirt and bottoms as possible with the bottoms being the darker denim.

Khabi Mirza and model in slighty 80’s double denim outfit.

Americana/Preppy Trend

Again, a trend that has been around this year already but with a few slight changes.  With more of an 80’s fit, baseball and varsity jackets are slimmer on the shoulders, maintaining a sleek silhouette.  Feminine chequered shirts will be worn under the jacket or even as outerwear along with pleated, tapered chinos  which are a great alternative to denim.  Finish this look with a pair of brogues or flat lace-up pumps.

Sizzling Sequins

Yet another trend that is still around to stay but this time with more placement, patterns and bright colours and mainly in disc shape.

Where to get this look:

Rothko Sequins Dress / French Connection / £63 – click image to buy

Prints

Printed leggings are going digital in a kaleidoscope of interesting colours.  Slouchy tops are going to have more of an illustrative, sketchy print with hints of flora making the summer last that little bit longer.  Wear these two together to balance the look out.

Other prints to look out for are digitised print shift and mini/scuba dresses with contrasting panels and diamond shape cut outs on the back.

Winters floral prints are set to black based.  Bag yourself a dress with black background currently on the high street now and it can be worn into winter by adding tights!

Where to get this look:

Louche Detta Strappy Dress / Joy / £45 – click image to buy

*

Velvet

Finally, a trend that hasn’t been around this year.  Velvet is going to come in every shape and form this a/w from skirts and dresses to coats, handbags and accessories.  Choose rich jewel colours to add to the elegance of this fabric or muted tones bringing out the softness.  This is a fabric that can be worn in many different ways, but keep things simple and stick to a theme such as grunge, elegant, whimsical or dandy.  If you aren’t a fan of wearing velvet, stick to accessories such as velvet clutch bags, shoes, head bows or ribbons to update your outfit.

Where to get the dandy look:

Ruched Velvet Blazer in Black / New Look / £44.99 – click image to buy

Louche Lavinia Velvet & Chiffon Panel Skirt / Joy / £32 – click image to buy

*

ASOS Posh Bow Heeled Shoe / ASOS / £45 – click image to buy

Well I think that’s enough information overload for the day – hopefully I have provided some inspiration for the up and coming trends.

Thanks to my photo snapper for the day, Carrie – you were a super star!

Static Status

In Fashion Tips on August 11, 2010 at 1:01 pm

If like me, you are cursed by static, I mean really cursed – static in the hair, static in my clothes making them feel like cling wrap and static shooting out my finger tips when closing the car door!  And it’s not because I am walking around at home in my socks rubbing my feet along the carpet trying to shock the living day lights out of my partner (I prefer hiding behind doors for that).  Well today I had enough and did the only thing a static, cling-wrapped damsel in distress can do – I Googled it and  I am pleased to say, I found 2 solutions to static in clothing, the first one which I have tested with great success!

Quoted directly from the article – it did make me giggle.

Solution 1: Get a small tube of hand lotion or hand cream and go someplace that is private.  Lift the clothing that is clinging. Apply the hand cream or lotion to your body. Let your clothing return to its normal position. Your static cling will be gone!

Solution 2:  Get a small can or spritzer of hair spray and go someplace private.  Lift your dress, skirt or blouse that is clinging to you. Spray the insides of it and your body with hairspray. Give it a minute or two for the hairspray to dry.  Let your clothing return to its normal position. Your static cling will be gone!

Happy ‘staticless’ day to you!

Let me know if you have any other interesting solutions.

Sneaky Peak at A/W Trends

In Uncategorized on August 9, 2010 at 5:47 pm

I managed to nab myself a couple entry tickets to the Pure Exhibition that took place two Sundays ago, an exhibition predominately for buyers.   There was promise of hundreds of leading premium womenswear labels showcasing their new collections as well as up-and-coming labels to watch out for, trend presentations and catwalk shows – I couldn’t wait.

Waking up after 3 hours sleep (there is a key word in ‘Ronnie Scotts Late Night Show’ that stands true) was not easy but my excitement kept me going and the bright idea of cucumber on my eyes for 10 minutes was a refreshing thought.

Anyway, me and my number one fan, friend and photographer for the day met up, entered the grand Kensington Olympia and for as far as the eye could see, there were indeed, hundreds of labels waiting to be explored, my poor eyeballs were all over the place.

So tempted to get on that bonnet!

First stop, coffee!  Then off we skipped to the trends presentation which was presented by fashion commentator, Khabi Mirza and Asos womenswear buyer, Jo Hunt.  They worked their way through high street trends for a/w 2010, providing invaluable tips on how to make these trends work.

Here are a few:

The Military Look – this recent trend is not going anywhere and will be taking on a slightly different look for a/w, with military jackets taking on a more Scandinavian influence, oversized tops and skinny army green trousers.  This trend will even continue into summer 2011, with military shorts in more interesting fabrics.  Complete this look with a tousled scarf, giving off a global traveller vibe.  Key colours here are army green followed shortly by navy.

Where to get this look:

Navy Duffle Mac / Miss Selfridge / £55  – to buy, click on the image

Zip Biker Skinny Trousers in Taupe / Topshop / £38 – to buy, click on the image

Going hand in hand with the above military look is aviation interpretation of the trend.  This look is all about a sleek look with slim cuts with darker hues and dark-brown leather jackets.  If it has faux fur, lambs wool or sheepskin on the collar – even better!

Sheepskin Flying Jacket in Black / Topshop / £325 – to buy, click on the image

Country Sloan Trend – The term sloan refers to a stereotype in the UK of young, upper class or upper-middle-class women or men.  Initially the term “Sloane Ranger” was used mostly in reference to women, a particular archetype being Princess Diana.  For this look think of tweed jackets, skinny jeans or jeggins, cable knit jerseys and brogues.  Look for contrasting colours under the collar and lapels of the jackets to make your outfit look young and fresh.

Khabi Mirza giving us the lowdown on the Country Sloane trend.

Where to get this look…

Woolen Check Boyfriend Jacket / Topshop / £70 – to buy, click on the image

Multi Stick Bobble Jacket in mink / Miss Selfridge / £40 – to buy, click on the image

Vintage Skinny Baxter Jeans / Topshop / £40 – to buy, click on the image

Kameryn Canvas Brogues in tan / Topshop / £55 – to buy, click on the image

This trend is all about using heritage fabrics and patterns with a modern interpretation.  Other items included in this look are quilted jackets, prints on slouchy jerseys, printed and plain corduroy, equestrian details such as chains and buckles.  Capes are set to be huge over a/w so grab yourself a navy, camel or khaki one to take you through the seasonal colour changes.

Hooded Military Cape in khaki / Asos / £70 – to buy, click on the image

I have a few more trends to update you on but it’s way past my bed time and a girl needs to get her beauty sleep.  Pop back in soon to see what trends will be hitting the streets in full swing very soon – hopefully not too soon, I don’t want to wish the summer away, but at least we have some fab items to look forward to.

Until tomorrow…
